Metrolina (NC) Baseball 1

The Richmond (Va.) River Dogs used 2 pitchers to win 4 games including the AA final with a 14-1 victory over Metrolina of North Carolina.

Richmond's Mike Gordon won the semifinal and final Saturday, giving up 2 runs in 2 games over 16 innings. Friday Jeff Heidig won 2 games in the first round and quarterfinal round of the playoffs, giving up 5 runs in 16 innings.

"I never thought they could go two games back to back like that,'' said Richmond Manager Bill Wasilweski. "We had outstanding pitching. "We had lots of hits and outstanding defense.''

Gordon held Metrolina to 8 hits over 9 innings for the victory. Plus he did it with the bat. He homered, doubled and singled.

The team pounded 3 Metrolina pitchers for 18 hits. They also took advantage of 5 Metrolina errors.
